The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is a world-renowned moderate-level expedition that leads deep into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a high-altitude amphitheater ringed by some of the world’s most magnificent peaks, including Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri. Unlike the dry, high-altitude landscape of the Khumbu region, the ABC trek is celebrated for its incredible diversity, starting from lush, subtropical rhododendron forests and terraced farming villages before culminating in the dramatic, snowy basin of the Base Camp (4,130m / 13,550 ft). It is a perfect blend of cultural immersion with Gurung and Magar communities and breathtaking natural scenery, making it one of Nepal’s most popular and accessible high Himalayan treks.

Overview
The trip usually takes about 10 to 12 days. It’s a “teahouse trek,” which means you stay and eat in small, simple hotels run by local families along the trail. The trek starts close to a city called Pokhara. You might begin walking from a town like Nayapul, or take a quick car ride (Jeep) to a closer village like Jhinu Danda to save time. The path is clear, but sometimes you have to climb a lot of stone steps (which people in Nepal jokingly call ‘Nepali flat’) and cross long swinging bridges over rivers. When you reach the end, the Annapurna Base Camp, you get a special 360-degree view of huge mountains all around you.
Highlights
- Diverse Terrain: Walking through lush bamboo jungles and blooming rhododendron forests (in Spring) before reaching the alpine zone.
- Sunrise Views: Witnessing the golden sunrise hitting the Annapurna massif, turning the snow-capped peaks into gold.
- Gurung Culture: Experiencing the warm hospitality and unique stone-built villages of the Gurung people in Chhomrong and Ghandruk.
- Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC): Getting up close to the holy "Fishtail" mountain, one of the most beautiful unclimbed peaks in the world.
